Srinagar, Sep 28 (KNO): PDP MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Para on Monday questioned the language of the Jammu and Kashmir Government's resolution on restoration of statehood, asking, "How many resolutions will finally lead to a resolution?"
Speaking in the Assembly, Para, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said political parties may differ in ideology, but issues such as statehood, Article 370 and Article 35A remain common concerns for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged the National Conference-led government to explicitly mention Article 370, Article 35A and autonomy in its resolution, asking, "Why be ashamed of it? Why worry about it?"
Para said the amendments moved to the resolution reflected shortcomings in the government's original draft.
"If it was sincere, these amendments would not have been here now, that too from eight NC MLAs," he said.
Stressing that key political issues transcend party lines, Para said, "Parties may differ, but the issues are common, whether it is statehood, business rules, Article 370 or Article 35A."
The PDP leader also criticised the Assembly for not condemning the developments of August 5, 2019, and the arrests and detentions that followed.
"In two years, the Assembly has never condemned what happened on August 5 and thereafter, including arrests, detentions and political arrests," he said.
Para said that while the Assembly may not be able to provide immediate relief to the people, it can place its position on record.
"We may not be able to give much relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, but we can set the record straight. We can condemn what happened on August 5 and state that J&K seeks restoration of Article 370," he said—(KNO)
